  • where's the respect, man?

i just read in the news that a new commission to investigate illegal aliens has been formed, that foreigners (ie non-citizens) are barred from joining rallies, and there were illegal aliens caught recently and are now awaiting deportation. they are currently being held in Clark, Pampanga, at the former US base in the Philippines. oh yea, i forgot to mention, this is news about the Philippines, not the US.

my point? first, that those people who think that the US should not have borders really need to spend time to learn more about the world. instead of posting comments proudly proclaiming your ignorance to the world, research on why nations have established borders.

second, a country can have immigration laws and implementing those laws (aka deporting illegal aliens) is not only NOT unheard of, it is expected.

i am against illegal immigration and my reason is more basic than losing jobs to illegal aliens, or to be fair to those who went the legal route, etc, etc, etc. i have a good job with great benefits (don't have to pay for medical nor dental insurance) and had a 10-year tourist visa before moving here. in short, i don't feel the pinch of the usual anti-illegal immigration reasons.

but, as a filipino, i sympathize with the anti-illegal immigration sentiments of americans. i imagined the philippines having a significant illegal immigrant population which pose the same social problems that america now has, and i definitely DO NOT like it.

to me, this is simply about a lack of respect which disgusts me. if i have defined my personal space and don't want you to touch me, respect that. if a country has defined its borders, respect it - don't cross it. and, if you don't provide that respect, please be mature enough to accept the consequences which you should have been aware of in the first place. whining only makes your disrespect more disgusting. and blaming me for your transgression against me really gets my goat. we have a term for that in tagalog: kapalmuks!

also, and this is off-topic, when you talk of immigration, please distinguish between legal and illegal immigration. people who say that 'we are all immigrants here' should look up what immigration means. or better yet, look up what 'legal' means. and, if you want numbers, go here: http://immigrationcounters.com/datasource.html

Yza pointed to the cover of the coloring book she was holding and said:

"That's Jesus." After a pause, she added: "Jesus loves you."

    I said: "Yes, that's true".

    "I like Jesus," she said.

    "Really?" I asked.

"Yes, I like Jesus", nodding and pursing her lips with all the thoughtful self-assurance of an adult.

    "Why?"

    "I like guys".
