  • any desktop publishing gurus out there..?

we're making a souvenir program using Adobe Pagemaker. somebody is submitting an ad to be included in the souvenir and it is saved in MS Publisher (.pub). i'm not really familiar with either program. we don't have MS Publisher. is there a way for the .pub to be read into Pagemaker? or is there a way for her to save the file in a format that is readable by Pagemaker?

(i'm hoping the answer is: "oh yeah, Pagemaker can read anything!")

  • separation anxiety

i dropped yza off at the babysitter an hour ago -- a first for us. when i left, she didn't cry. that made me want to bawl. my baby doesn't miss me! waaaaaahhhhhhh! when i got home i finished off a slice of cake and a can of coke. and now i'm sitting here blogging, instead of working, because i can't stop thinking of her. the books said separation anxiety sets in around 10-12 months?? they didn't say it hits the mom hard, too. maybe i'd feel better when i've cried. excuse me.

  • Yza's birthday

i paused as i looked at the title. who would have thought this day would finally arrive?

unfortunately, this is a busy day -- it's flower festival time and everybody is busy -- so we will celebrate tomorrow instead:

it's a good thing, i guess, that we all went to bed past midnight so eric and i had greeted her happy birthday and gave her the birthday letter from her lolo (my papa). we sang happy birthday to her and when i told her to blow on my finger she did! haha -- so cute. and then she gave us kisses. she is such a sweet and happy girl.

  • We're in Manila! Got here last Friday at 3:40am. We will be leaving for Samar tomorrow to spend a few days with the DRF missioners on the last leg of the annual mission, then on to Surigao on the 27th for a family mega-reunion which my lolo had sort of requested, back to Manila on the  31st, Yza's binyag on June 3 and then back to the States on June 4. Needless to say, the past 3 days have been busy planning and taking care of the details for the trips to the provinces and for Yza's binyag.

Yza has been uber-wonderful. More of that later. Gotta go again.

Nawala ko ang list of contacts ko and might not have the time to call everybody, so to the gang, kung nababasa nyo to: binyag is on June 3, punta kayo! Email me for the directions.

  •

so, what happens to all those plastic easter eggs that kids get?
do they get recycled? what do you do with them?

  • she walked! she was so upset when i took out the foil-wrapped egg chocolate she was chewing that when i moved away, she went after me! she took three steps, then stopped,  took two more and finally, squatted and cried.

we couldn't believe she did it so i  offered her a piece of toast and, yes, she took three steps towards me again.

she did it several more times during the night, sometimes taking a couple of steps on her own while exploring the room and playing by herself. you can tell that she's experimenting with her new-found skill.

a new milestone for her ninth month. it means a new challenge for mommy and daddy, but certainly a great way to cap what has been a very busy and exciting weekend!

  • Today's Special:

    go ahead, cheer here!

  • and last friday...

yza turned 9 months! daddy baked her a super moist chocolate cake with chocolate icing. the look on her face says she's not too sure about it.  maybe it would be better without the cheerios topping (which was my idea).

last friday she also -- finally!-- had her two teeth pop through her gums. and for somebody who has been teething, she has been amazingly good-natured: no crying, no fussiness.

her favorite activity nowadays is standing up. from a squatting position she sort of pulls her body up and pushes with her legs at the same time. i first saw her stand up on her own two weeks ago and she has been doing a lot of it since then and does it pretty smoothly now.

    ***

sometimes, when i see her move about a feeling of amazement washes over me. it is amazing how she has changed, in nine  months, from a floppy-headed baby i was too nervous to hold in my arms to this crawling, wriggling, laughing, moving wonder who is such a joy to us.

as i watch her stand up, squat back down to pick up a toy and stand right up again, i can't help thinking: my little girl is so grown up now!

the funny thing is, i had the same thought when she was two months old and i realized that she has been crying much, much less and smiling a lot and that we have been communicating better. i had the same thought when she was four months old and i saw her sit up on her own. i've had that thought several times in the past months and i know, i will be having those thoughts maybe a hundred more times down the road. i am a mommy now and nothing, really, has ever been the same since i first held her in my arms.

  • thank you to all who left comments on my last post.

i found a babysitter! *wow, is that thunderous clapping i hear out there?*
i will post his picture tomorrow.

oh, and belated happy valentine's to everyone!
